Frizzy Hair Frizz is a sign of dehydrated hair fibers. Hair appears dry, puffy, and overly voluminous. When moisture is lacking, the hair starts absorbing humidity from the air, causing the hair shaft to swell. The cuticle lifts, allowing moisture to penetrate the cortex and triggering a “ballooning” effect. This is why frizz worsens in rainy weather or humid environments. Curly hair is more prone to frizz than straight or wavy hair due to its natural structure. In addition to climate, other contributors to frizz include frequent coloring or bleaching (which dries out the hair), heat styling (blow-dryers, flat irons), washing with overly hot water, and using inappropriate hair care products. All of these factors increase dehydration, porosity, and structural damage to the hair.
