Anagen Alopecia

Anagen Alopecia
Anagen alopecia is a form of sudden and extensive hair loss that occurs during the hair growth phase (anagen).
It is characterized by rapid hair shedding — up to 80% — within just 1 to 4 weeks.
This abrupt loss is caused by the inhibition of cell division in the hair follicles, which instantly halts hair growth.
The main causes of anagen alopecia include:
  • Genetic or hormonal disorders (e.g., hypothyroidism, endocrine imbalances)
  • Severe infections
  • Medical treatments: chemotherapy, medications with hair-related side effects
  • Nutritional deficiencies: copper, iron, essential fatty acids, vitamin C
  • Exposure to radiation (X-ray, gamma radiation)
  • Contact with toxic substances: chromium, boron, arsenic
The good news is that anagen alopecia is reversible.
Once the underlying cause is identified and eliminated, more than 90% of the lost hair can regrow over the following months.
